Florida Bandango 2005

A big THANK YOU to the great Suncoast performers who traveled to Austin, Texas to perform at the Third Annual Florida Bandango held at Yard Dog Folk Art Gallery on Wednesday, March 16, 2005, the first afternoon of the legendary South-By-Southwest (SXSW) Music Conference.

Over 500 guests enjoyed a terrific sampling of Suncoast music while enjoying free beer, free alligator chili from Skipper’s Smokehouse in Tampa and free hand-rolled cigars donated by J.C. Newman Cigar Company in Tampa.

Here’s a glimpse of the afternoon:
1:45 The crowd started dancing when Freight Train Annie started off the showcase with an engaging set of blues & boogies.

2:50 Next up was Four Star Riot with tight and gritty power pop.

3:40 Crowd-pleasers Squirrels Gone Wild showed musicianship beyond their years and got the old people’s heads rocking in time. The Squirrels were also asked to play at the Jane Magazine party and got their picture in Resonance Magazine due to playing at the Florida Bandango.

4:30 The Beauvilles showed why they’re getting noticed from Tampa Bay to points far beyond with their set of sexy, rhythmic rock.

5:20 Too soon, it was time for the last band, Sparky’s Nightmare, who ended the afternoon with a riveting set of roadhouse rock.

Hosts Flee (Music Director of WMNF, 88.5 Tampa) & strolling troubadour John McNicholas kept the flow between sets.
