Local musician and WMNF programmer Ed Lehmann announces new compilation CD project. Entitled “This CD Kills Fascists,” in honor of folk legend Woody Guthrie, the CD will feature Florida artists doing original songs that speak to the issues of our times and will present a variety of musical styles to highlight the diversity of our local culture. A CD release party is scheduled for November 13, 2010 @ Skipper’s Smokehouse. The project is a fund-raiser for WMNF. If you want to submit a song for consideration, email an mp3 to: parsonbrown.e1@gmail.com.

This project was inspired by local bands who have recently produced songs about the Gulf oil disaster and the West Virginia mining accident. Songs may cover a variety of contemporary subjects — social, political, environmental. Submission deadline is September 7, 2010.

More info about this project is here

How do Tampa Bay’s musicians interpret, describe, embody or imbue the idea of a road trip, or driving, or the myriad of aspects of cars and our relationship with cars, or a journey — in general or specific?

BAAMO is ready to listen to everything you’ve got for our (as yet untitled) 2011 Compilation CD. This time, we’re only accepting submissions through Sonicbids — but with the low, low submission fee of $2.00 per song. For the record, 100% of the $2/song stays with Sonicbids to cover their hosting and administrative costs.

Deadline for submissions is September 23, 2010.

BAAMO’s last two comp CDs, Cheatin’ Heart: Tales of Lives & Love” (released in 2008) and Tales of Lust & Longing (2009) both topped the charts at WMNF 88.5 FM in Tampa. But each also garnered airplay across the country and the world…from Australia to Anchorage to San Francisco to San Antonio to Austin to Asheville to the Big Apple to Holland, Brussels, Germany and France.

For the 2011 release, BAAMO will hire at least one promoter to help get airplay and press and anything else we can think of. And we really do need a catchy title soon so feel free to let those ideas rip, too.

All the details are <a target="_blank" href="http://www.sonicbids.com/BAAMOCompilation"/">here. Sonicbids would like us to remind you that “if you are not a Sonicbids member and want to submit, click the link above and sign-up for the Sonicbids Combo Package (includes your submission AND a discounted Sonicbids membership). If you are already a Sonicbids member, log in to your Sonicbids account and visit the Promoter Drop Box to submit.” Hummm…wonder what Promoter Drop Box is? Does that mean we get old tennis shoes and chipped china?

If you’re not in the Sonicbids community, you can sign up for a two-week trial membership and be out only, well, $2.00 for your song…or $4.00 if you max out and submit two.

We are very, very happy to be working on another compilation CD. We plan to spend money on promotion. While we’ll sell CDs and put the songs on every digital distribution service, we also plan to give it away, all of it. Our goal is to get the rest of the country and the world listening to the music we are fortunate enough to hear everyday in our own backyard.

Indigenous rules. Send us your indigenous best.

Since Soncibids seems to have edited our info, here’s everything there is to know, to date, about this project (and yes, there’s some repetition):

1.	Theme: Road trip/driving/cars/journeys.

2.	BAAMO compilation CDs feature Tampa Bay artists. BAAMO considers the Tampa Bay area to extend from Sarasota County north to Hernando County.

3.	Submission deadline is September 23, 2010. We expect to release the CD in March 2011.

4.	Artists may submit up to two original songs for consideration through SonicBids ($2 per song).

5.	Each submission must include an mp3 of the song and lyrics. Demos are fine but that should be clearly noted. NO song can be considered without lyrics. If a demo is selected we do not guarantee that the finished song will be used. Directly or indirectly, concretely or abstractly, lyrics should have some correspondence with the theme.

6.	All styles and genres are welcome. The primary purpose of this CD is to garner radio airplay; artists should ponder the implications of this goal when submitting songs in excess of five minutes or songs featuring extended jams or songs with FCC violations (and without radio edits or the potential for radio edits). Because this CD is intended for airplay we will not include any songs with FCC violations. But we love nasty songs.

7.	If the song is selected, the band must allow BAAMO to both physically publish the song on the CD and also release the song for digital download. BAAMO will retain earnings (if any) from physical or digital release to fund future compilation projects. BAAMO will offer all songs for free on our website and also distribute physical and digital thru CD Baby and or other avenues of distribution.

8.	If the song is selected, artist agrees to make every possible effort to play the CD Release Show, which is also a fund-raiser for BAAMO, likely to be held in April 2011.

9.	The 2011 compilation CD will be mailed to at least 300 radio stations plus print and internet media outlets across the US, Canada and Europe. BAAMO intends to again hire at least one professional radio promotion company to help increase airplay and exposure for Tampa Bay artists on the record.

10. Previously released BAAMO CDs include “Tales of Drink and Debauchery” and “Tales of Lust and Longing” have garnered air-play locally (Top 10 WMNF year end chart), nationally and internationally.

A “quirky mix of homegrown musical talent and international business gurus” that is “heavy in top-rate shows” – National Geographic Traveler

“An utterly exhaustive list of all the tools you need to launch yourself into superstardom. Just don’t forget about the little people who got you there” – Creative Loafing

“Well worth it for local musicians to roll out of bed at the crack of midday” – Tampa Tribune

“Giving aspiring Tampa Bay area musicians an opportunity to learn the ins and outs of just what exactly is going on in the fluctuating music industry these days” – REAX Music Magazine

The symposium is organized by the Artists and Writers Group in partnership with Hillsborough Community College-Ybor City Campus. Bay Area Arts and Music Organization (BAAMO) and Ybor City Development Corporation are also partners. Other sponsors include Creative Loafing, REAX Magazine, WMNF, the Roosevelt, and New World Brewery.

The Homemade Music Symposium is a project of the Artists and Writers Group, Inc, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Tampa, Florida. Our mission is to celebrate and incubate the Tampa Bay area cultural community through programs that provide educational and exhibition opportunities for artists, writers and musicians. Headquartered in Ybor City, we serve as a logistical resource for the arts in Tampa Bay, developing our community by helping turn creative concepts into realities. In addition to the creation of Homemade, our programs also include a major role in the award-winning Ybor Festival of the Moving Image and Deep Carnivale, Tampa’s premiere literature festival.
