LOVE, THE CONQUEROR

Written by: Ed Woltil

Love spins, it mesmerize you in
so watch where you step ‘cause you’re in the web and you can get tangled
‘til nothing can extricate you.
Love blinds, it hits you from behind
and knocks you off your perch, and the timing really couldn’t be much worse,
from best-laid plans it will wake you. It will shake you, unmake you
the curve of a lip or a swaying hip is all that it takes to
overtake you and break you. Love steals, it captures and reveals you
unpeels your heart and holds your secrets up to the light,
your skin is too thin to hide it.
Love burns, it twists you and it turns you
upside down, inside out, still it feels so right
and you’re too punch-drunk to fight it. Uninvited, blindsided,
Love conquers all, consummated or unrequited.
You’re incited, starbrighted. Love hurts, it leaves you in the lurch
and fades a little more the more you try to search for a breakthrough,
it’s certain to forsake you.
Still you believe, you wear it on your sleeve
despite all the loose talk and the laughingstock that it makes you,
Love’s promise consecrates you and it shakes you, remakes you
a meeting of the eyes or a longing sigh is all that it takes to
overtake you and break you. It will shake you, unmake you
the curve of a lip or a swaying hip is all that it takes to
overtake you and break you.
