HARD TIMES
Written by: Rebekah Pulley

She left a lasting scar everywhere she went
And she prayed to Jesus that every sinner would repent
California made her but California wouldn’t have her
So she traveled north to that great state of Alaska

She met man who played a honky-tonk guitar
In the dim light and smoke of a Kodiak island bar
But that was way back in 19 and 57
And since then that man’s heart got broke and he went on up to heaven

She drove an old red car everywhere she went
And she prayed to Jesus that He would help her pay her rent
Alaska took her in but Alaska couldn’t fix her
So she traveled south to that great big state of Texas sir

She met a man who drove an eighteen wheeler truck
They got high on bennies then climbed in the back of the cab to fuck [radio edit on CD]
But that was way back in 19 and 60
And she ain’t seen that man since he left her with a baby

Hard times
She ain’t seen nothing but hard, hard times
From the land of the midnight sun
Right down to the beaches of Galveston
Hard times
Left her with a face full hard, hard lines
From the crease of her sun worn brow
Right down to the lines of her worried mouth
Hard time
She ain’t seen nothing but hard, hard times

She watched that boy grow up just outside of Palestine
And she prayed to Jesus that He would watch over him and protect him
Texas was a friend but Texas couldn’t mend their lives
So they went up north to live underneath that big Montana sky

She met a man who preached the word and sang the hymn
And she prayed so hard you think that Jesus would have listened
But that was way back in 19 and 69
And she ain’t seen that preacher man since he took off with her very last dime

Hard times
She ain’t seen nothing but hard, hard times
From the land of the midnight sun
Right down to the beaches of Galveston
Hard times
Left her with a face full hard, hard lines
From the crease of her sun worn brow
Right down to the lines of her worried mouth
Hard time
She ain’t seen nothing but hard, hard times
